Hi, I'm looking for a new P&S camera. I'd like a compact (or ultracompact) for $300 or less. I don't need manual controls and don't care about video. I mostly take pictures of my kids and family gatherings, often indoors but also some outdoors.I will use the camera in automatic mode and will use the built-in flash. I was ready to buy the Canon SD880 when someone recommended the Fujifilm F100fd. Which of these do you recommend or do you have other suggestions?

Thanks!

Great, thank you! I just needed some reassurance. Out of curiousity, why so definitive?

The link that Andy provided is the answer why the SD-880 is the top choice.

The link Andy provided declared the Fuji F100fd the overall winner - not the Canon.

Never believe in one review...go here...

The 880 came second in the Dpreview test , F100 the winnerhas a longer lens 140mm and is also NEOCAMERAS(do a search )best compact camera of 2008 awards.

The huge problem with the 880 is noise over 200 iso ,as mentioned by anouther poster the F100 has much lessnoise great at400 iso,but there is one otherbig problem with the latest Sd 880 ,this time round compared to the last SDi its the tiny weak flash :shock:its just a slit, do have a look at a pcture of one and smaller than the previous model .

As a social camera bought for many for night out party ect its a real deal breaker was for me returned it.. The 880 is good in bright light but as its shots over 200 iso are not so great and the flash just puny the F100 blast it has a powerfull flash I might add, I have a F100 in coolblack and its just so much better all round than the 880 , and is just my point of view.

The comparison from imaging resource actually shows that the f100d applied alot of noise reduction which caused a watercolour effect on the photo. You can't even clearly make out the details of the the hair on the doll.
the sd880 might have more noise, but there were more details.

Well, the decision is still up to you.
I have been using the sd880 for about a week or so and no complains so far.

There's no doll in Still-life 800.

i vote for F100.
if you not shoot in "Auto" mode you may not care [too much]about NR affects, until you start shooting in low-light constantly[but even there - Fuj P&S superior].
