It will cost at least twice as much as the FZ28 is selling for online now.

You can always find something in the future that will have higher resolution, better video, more features, etc. I think at this moment, the FZ28 is a good deal.

what do you guys think of open box purchases?

i'm ok with cosmetic blemishes, but are they usually bunk or bad products?

Bad.

Open box can mean a camera covered with baby snot and chocolate.

Are there "good" open box deals? Sure. The camera the vendor used to photograph for print or web usage,or the camera unit a storefront had on permanent display in the front window.

Customer Returns are most open box deals with the potential for missing lens covers and documents. And the risk of Baby Snot.
