I'm looking for a friend. She wants it to be fairly small (i.e. not a canon superzoom) :-)

-Should have optical viewfinder
-Should have articulating lcd

That's about the only two "needs"....

I"m not really familiar with the p&s market anymore, ever since I got a Canon 40D a while back...

Articulating LCD displays are rare on the smaller models, and optical viewfinders are rare on the larger models.

Smaller models have optical viewfinders because they don't have much to offer in the way of zoom. (Zooming the lens is one thing; zooming the viewfinder is another.) So most P&S digicams have an electronic viewfinder. That is, a small LCD display behind an eyepiece. It typically shows the same image and settings that the large LCD display on the back does. (Are you sure she wants an optical viewfinder?)

Articulating LCD displays are bigger and heavier, and so usually only get installed on the larger and heavier cameras.

There may be a handful of cameras that have both an optical viewfinder and an articulating display, but they are generally mutually exclusive.

Not necessarily an optical viewfinder I guess. Just a hole to look through so she doesn't have to depend upon the LCD to frame shots.

FujiFilm FinePix S9100

Canon PowerShot SX10 IS*

Canon PowerShot S5 IS*

Panasonic DMC-FZ50*
