Default It is time for a new camera...

Hi,

I've had my Canon G5 for 5 and 1/2 years, it still takes decent pictures but it is coming to its end. It takes forever to focus and few more problems... I could only take 12-15 pix while my friend took over 60 with her new camera in the museum. Mine has 4x optical and 4.1x digital (16 times in combination). I am thinking of buying G10 so with 5x optical and 4x digital does G10 come up to 20x?

I took my G5 to Bestbuy and compared zooming; mine could zoom farther then G10 on the display. It shouldn't be, right? Do you think the settings were wrong on the display G10?

I think the G10 was probably set to optical zoom only, which gives better image quality.

The G10 will cost you almost $500. For that price you could buy an excellent entry level DSLR/lens combination like the Canon Rebel XS, Olympus E520, Sony A200 or Pentax K2000. Your friend who took 60 pictures in the museum was probably using a DSLR. In low light environments, without a flash, a DSLR is far superior to the G10.

Thank you both TCAV and AndyfromVA. I was away and didn't get to read the posts. I was hoping to get a Canon with capturing movie. Thank you again for your help.
