Sony W220, Olympus FE-5010, Panasonic FS7, Nikon S220. All come with lithium ion rechargeable batteries, which are easier to use than AA's.

Default The Kodak Z-1485 is an Excellent Choice

The Kodak Z-1485 is also an excellent choice. It is also measurably discounted. It is simple to use, have 5X optical zoom, and produces excellent sharp photos. I have attached a sample photo.

thank you to sarah joyce as well. that's a beautiful pic in your reply. i am buying a z1012 for my dad's birthday thanks to you and others in the kodak forum. i may also be looking at the kodak z915 as a xmas present, but waiting for a few more reviews. do you think z1485 is durable enough for a not always responsible teen?

For tops in durability I would go with a flush lens ultracompact. Sony is well known with their T-series, but these are way over your budget. Least expensive choices will be Fujifilm Z-series, Olympus, and Samsung.

a70d-

My husband is notorious (read easily breaks) electronics. The Kodak Z-1485 has stood up very well in his record of use.

Congratulations on your Z-1012 choice. It is an excellent camera.
