Default Indoor, outdoor, overseas

My wife needs a lightweight camera for trips, conventions, etc. She will take indoor shots (no flash) and outdoor scenics. She would like 10mp,10x optical zoom or similar and something that takes alkaline batteries as it is not always possible to recharge in some of the countries where she travels. Any suggestions? Thanks. Larry

You know that's a tall order, right?

Indoor/available light photography is generally the domain of the dSLR, which rules out the "lightweight" part.

Lightweight cameras have small lenses (glass is heavy), so they have small apertures. To shoot indoors without a flash, she'll need to use slow shutter speeds (risking motion blur from subject movement and camera shake) and high ISO settings (risking image noise.)

The rest of it's not a problem, but when you add the indoor part, it gets tough.

Thanks for the reply. I know it's a problem. If it wasn't, I would have just bought a camera. I will keep working on it. Thanks again.
