I have pretty much been obsessed with this whole camera search for the last couple of days, neglecting everything else. Like I said in the last post, everything gets murky until I remember ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO ISO so perhaps I should just get the T1i and be done with it. It's just the idea of also needing a flash and several lenses that is causing me to freeze (like a deer in the headlights) due to the cost and practicality of me using it. I am spoiled by P&S...but also am a "real" photographer at heart

but really...how much $$ diff is there?? If you got the Ti and didn't use it to it full potential but were happy with the purchase..vs a slightly cheaper one and wishing you had XXXXXX.

OR....get the XSi and lenses, and now you're in a system and can up grade to...a Ti or beyond..

opps I was posting at the same time.. (hard to get a word in edgewise..LOL)

littlejohn-

That is exactly the point JohnG and I were attempting to make today when discussing external flashes. Now with the E-620 that you are now testing, if we even added the Olympus FL-36, rather than the larger, more powerful FL-50 flash, the kit lens would work perfectly with the Zukio 14-42mm kit lens.

Take a look at this photo that I just took of Bradley with the E-620 equipped with the Zukio 40-150mm lens and the external flash. Looks fine to me. So F2.8 is certainly not the bottom line thanks to using a good external flash, where the aperture usually falls to around F 5.6.

I guess I am getting confused by the lenses, etc...but the body only price is only about $100-200 difference (just looking at Amazon).

ETA the Olympus E620 body only is about the same as the xsi, the Pentax K2000 is a lot less ($100 less WITH 2 lenses). Just for comparison

javacleve-

When I last looked the Olympus E-620 body at www.amazon.com was $599.00. However the lenses cost less than the comparable Canon Lenses.

However, wait a minute, i thought the deciding factor was supposed to be image quality and ISO capabilities. What happened?

I think we need a spreadsheet! something like this....
Canon T1i Pentax KX Olympus E620 Nikon D90
body price
IS in body?
IQ (subjective)--personally looking for sharp
ISO max
available lenses

etc etc.
Every time someone brings up a new recommendation, I forget all the things I need to compare (such as the lenses, are they sharp, are they fast focus, are they wide aperture--or do I even NEED wide aperture if I have high ISO, etc etc)

ETA oops forgot about Sony! I liked the A230 images Sarah posted, also...

well, that's the thing...I keep going back to the Oly for IQ, but then I remember it doesn't have the ISO. That's why I need a spreadsheet LOL

SOOO, for an ISO of 3200, is the T1i the only affordable solution then? If so, then I think it has to be my choice...
