Default Which camera for me?

Hello Camera experts

I'm no professional, so I'm looking for a new camera that's not too difficult to use.

My current everyday camera is an Olympus 1030SW. I bought it because we are avid cruisers & spend a lot of time at the beach. It has worked well for that. However, it has a lousy zoom. We're going an an Alaskan cruise in a couple months and I know my camera will never capture all there is to see.

Here's what I'm looking for...
Something with a great clear zoom!
Easy to use
Less than $400
It doesn't have to be pocket-sized, but purse sized would be great!
Video not necessary - we won't even use it.
A good auto setting, but I'm ok w/ learning the manual adjustments too.
Nothing needs printed larger than 4x6.

Mostly outdoor use - occasional indoor.
I'm hoping to catch some great landscape/scenery shots.
Occasional night-time use - so just average pics would be OK there.
Rarely for moving objects (hopefully a whale or two, but thats about it)

Any suggestions?

Olympus SP590UZ. I use it as my "field camera" and am well-pleased with its performance.

2 cameras pop into my mind for your needs of a long zoom, yet retaining a good wide-angle lens and keeping it manageable in size.

panasonic ZS1 - nice 12x zoom, starting at a wide 25mm (landcape/scenery)
canon sx200is - similar 12x zoom starting at 28mm

both are pretty comparable in image quality and compete pretty well with each other. you couldn't go wrong either way.

carnival Cruzer-

Welcome to the Forum. We're glad you dropped by.

One more suggestion. How about the canon SX-110 or SX-120. My husband and I are also avid cruisers. We just returned from our 609th cruise.

Have a grteat day.
