Default Kind of a new way "What Camera should I buy her?

The new way is that She wants a camera that has some meat to it..bulky!!
She doesn't want a credit card sized camera.. The budget is about $250 I did look at the Sony DSC H20 but it's still small.. A Canon SX120 is alittle bigger..
I know she wants something like a DSLR but it's out of the question right now.. budget wise
I figure something along the line of 5in wide 3in high .. and great photo's

Any idea's ?

Thanks

Hi there, CASD-

Welcome to the Forum. We're glad you dropped by

At that price point, the Canon SX-120 and the Kodak Z-1012 are about as good as you can get. The Z-1012 is now longer manufactured, but it is easily available on the used market like E-bay.

Both cameras are very capable, even offering good higher ISO performance at ISO 800, as well as excellent indoor performance with good flash ranges. The Z-1012 even has an EVF rather than just an LCD to frame your photos.

Here is a ISO 800 photo sample from the Canon SX-110 the forerunner to the current SX-120 camera.

Have a great day.

Default Those are ok and...

It depends if she wants a camera that she could stick into a jacket pocket or ... something bigger.

I liked the Panasonic FZ28. Many people on this forum like its successor, the FZ35. These are ultra-zooms, with 18X optical zoom. Does your friend need or want that much zoom. The FZ35 can be bought online for less than $350. I think the Canon SX120, with its 10X optical zoom, would be enough for most people.

You can get some smaller DSLR's like the Olympus E-420 (and its siblings) and the Pentax K2000 for well under $500 with kit lens. But those lenses typically have 3X optical zoom.

Thanks everyone..

I'm leaning towards either the Kodak Z950/915 or the Canon SX120 mainly because of size and how feature loaded they are..

any others I should check out..

I did see a like New Panasonic Z28 for $264.. mmmm

CASD-

The Canon SX-120 has much better image quality than the Kodak Z-950. I own both of them.

That SX-110 looks pretty good at ISO 800. And I like the pic too. That would be a great choice on that budget.

CASD-

The Canon SX-110 has a little beter image quality than the SX-120. The Kodak Z-1015 was a very S-L-O-W and disappointing camera, that never sold well at all.

Canon SX-110 is your best option
Canon SX-120 2nd best
Sony H-20 3rd best
