Default P&S, compact camera

Hello,
I'm searching for a new camera. It should be a compact one, which makes wonderful fotos

Zoom and face detecting ist not really important for me, but the cam should make (relative) good fotos in night, especially on parties and (for sure) at daylight for sightseeing.

I'm still unsure between following:
Nikon S640 - but as I see on fotos, it makes terrible fotos at night
Fujifilm F70-EXR
Fujifilm F200-EXR

or has anyone another hint for me?

Thank you very much and sorry for my bad english,
Christian

Christian-

Welcome to the Forum. We are glad you dropped by.

Please keep in mind that while the Fuji F-200EXR and F-70EXR cameras are good when shooting in low light level environments, they are fairly complex cameras, that are technically somewhat beyond the usual point and shoot cameras. I would hesitate to recommend them for beginner usage.

For typical snapshots, the Nikon S640 with a 5X optical zoom lens and Nikon's proprietary IS system called VR, is a better and less expensive choice than the two Fuji cameras. Please be aware however, at full zoom (120mm) to retain image sharpness you should be using a shutter speed greater than 1/125th of a second.

If you wanted more zoom than is offered by the Nikon S640 or the Fuji F200EXR, I would suggest the Canon SX-120, which offers 10X optical zoom, full image stabilization, and both auto and manual controls.

Have a great day.

Hey Sarah, thanks for your reply.

I'dont need more zoom, i think 3x is enough for me.
But when I look to pictures of the S640 (http://www.neocamera.com/review_nikon_s640_samples.html this one inside the cathedral), I think that they are terrible. I've seen really better looking pictures of 200EXR.

Mh too much choice...
the Canon SX-120 is too big, i want them to carry in my trouser pockets.

Christian-

Yes, I agree that the Nikon S640 leaves a lot to be desired in terms of image quality. Does your budget allow something like the Canon S-90? The S-90's image quality is very good and it does much better with night photos as you can see from the attached photo sample.

Have a great day.

Puh, nice picture but the Canon S90 is unfortunately too expensive for me...i thought something about $370, max.

I think, I'll try the F200EXR. Usually, I'm technically gifted, so the camera settings wouldn't be a problem for me (hopefully ).

Is it true, that the F200EXR shoots better photos than the F70EXR?

Thank you

Christian-

Yes, the Fuji F-200EXR has better image quality and is is aimed at the enthusiast camera user. In contrast, the F-70EXR, has more zoom and it is targeted more toward the family photographer.
