Default Compact Super Zoom dilemma

Like most other visitors to the forum, I have read many reviews and now come to the experts for help!

I am visiting Canada and Alaska in May and want to take a smaller camera than my Nikon D90 which my husband will use.
Requirements are for great image quality and reasonable ease of use for landscapes (mountains and lakes), some group shots, still wildlife and general scenery. I don't need video but would like wide angle and as much zoom as possible. Price is not a consideration.

Cameras I am considering are:
Panasonic FZ-35
Canon G11
Sony H20 (unfortunately non existent wide angle lens)
Panasonic ZS3 (lousy indoor quality and poor battery life)
Nikon Coolpix P90 (oops forgot this one previously)

I would appreciate your comments. Cheers.

I think this is a pretty easy choice.

The FZ-35 is the only one that has a lens that allows for wide-angle scenery and a long telephoto (27mm-486mm) for both scenery and wildlife. The ZS3 has wide-angle, but the 300mm top end is a bit short for wildlife.

Your best choice it the Panasonic FZ-35. It has a 28mm wide angle and the needed long zoom.

HXL-

Welcome to the Forum. We're glad you dropped by.

No, I have not discovered a single professional of the Samsung H225W. However, I can share with you a very well know fact. The Samsung H225W, the Kodak Z-980, the Nikon P-90, and the Pentax X-70 are all produced in a single third part camera manufacturer in China. They all share the same 24X lens, and have only a few variations to insure individual branding. In my opinion, the best of the four cameras is the Kodak Z-980 because it has a hot shoe and an upgraded image processor.

In fact there is another interesting and well verified story that is kind of humorous. Kodak had to sign a contract for a fixed number of cameras. Well, as fate would have it the underestimated the popularity of the Kodak Z-980 camera and sold out their inventory 3 months earlier than their estimate. The original plan envisioned that they would have enough inventoryto last through Christmas 2009. Well, oops, they were sold out before Thanksgiving!

Have a great day and a Merry Christmas.

That sounds great, Lynn-

We're glad to hear of your decision. We're also sure you will enjoy the new Panasonic FZ-35 camera.
