Default P&S for landscape and macro work?

I was planing on the Panasonic LX3 but still not sure...any suggestion would be appreciated.

Must: Shoot Raw file, wide enough, Manual programs "A,S, and M".

Nice to have: 12MP+, As compact as possible.

Thanks guys.

the LX3 is a wonderful lansdcape camera as it has a very wide 24mm lens. and it will focus down to 2cm for still-life macro work. however, keep in mind it will be limited to 60mm on its tele. not a big deal if you are always doing wide-angle landscapes, but can be a limit if you want to do any compression or layered landscapes, or any kind of detail work as well. and the protruding lens and lenscap makes it difficult to get in a pocket.

another option is the canon s90. offers a decently wide 28mm lens that will focus down to 5cm for macro work. so its not quite as wide, or won't focus quite as close as the panny. it offers a more useful 105mm telephoto for detail/compressive landscapes. and the zoom lens retracts into the body making it easy to fit in the pocket. it shoots RAW, has full manual controls, etc. as well.

those would be my choices for pocket RAW-capable serious compacts.

Playa-

You are misleading yourself with the request for 12mp. As the pixels increase you face a very REAL problem with pixel density, where due to the closeness of the pixels side by side, when the pixels are reduced in size to allow for 12mp to be actually used on the same size imager, the result is a in your image quality. The Canon G-11 is actual proof of that fact.

Have a great weekend.

actually, no you don't.

the pixel density of 12+mp on a teeny tiny senor equates to a net loss in image quality due to the additive effects of noise and loss of per-pixel sharpness. there is a reason the higher end P&S actually choose to use fewer mp.
