well at the end of the day I had 2 choices

1) KX, 2 lens 18-55 and 55-300 for $850 cdn

or

2) T1i, bag, extra battery, and UV filter for $850 cdn

with the T1i I still needed to purchase a second lens and it would be $300 to $350

In listening to you folks with the view of my present needs, I opted for the KX. I don't think I'll have buyers remorse, because by the time I am ready to advance the technology will have changed considerably. In the mean while the KX will be a good learning camera..while providing quality photos.

Sidebar..the London drugs had to match another supplier in another town, when I originally picked up the KX it was a 2 lens package with the 50-200 for $850 ..thanks to 'matching price' I got the 55-300 upgrade at no extra cost.

Thanks again to all for your comments ...

John

Congratulations, and good luck with it.

Well done! I know you'll have a great time with your camera. Don't hesitate to wander down to the Pentax dSLR portion of this board and ask questions - there's a really knowledgeable group of people who are only too happy to answer questions (as we've probably asked them ourselves at some time in the past).

Wow! You are a crafty buyer. You got a bargain on that Pentax 55-300mm lens. Have fun with the KX. It is a great camera and I know that you will enjoy it a lot.

That's a pretty nice upgrade! While the 50-200 is a nice lens, the 55-300 is a really nice lens. Did you go looking for wallets in the parking lot after getting that deal? It seems like it was your lucky day!

Great deal! That works out to about $825 USD, if I am converting correctly. Amazon offered me the K-x with 18-55 and 55-300 for $612 USD shipped. We both got awesome deals on our new toys!!
