Thank you! :-)

Is the Canon A2100IS still available?

Or did the A-2100IS come out after the A2000IS, but they phased the A-2100IS out before the A200IS?

The Canon A-2000 came before the A-2100. However, the difference are negligible.

So has the Canon A2100IS been discontinued?

Although it seems contra-logic, apparently the A-2100 came first, and is priced sky high now at $499. The A-2000 is widely available at 174.95.

Saw a price like that on Amazon and thought what the heck???

Then was just looking at store not far from me that has the A2100IS on their website for $249. At that price, with the ZS3 being nearly the same price on Amazon, which would you go with?

Lawnboy-

Yes, the Panasonic ZS-3 is $235 at Amazon.

Here are the pro's and the con's:

Pro issues:
12X optical zoom
HD video+ you can zoom while filming.
Great Outdoor image quality

Con issues:
Only poor to fair indoor image quality due tiny, weak built-in flash unit

So yes, the ZS-3 is a good deal if you can put up with just a 6-8 foot flash range, or you already own a slave flash. Plus there may be a replacement camera introduced at PMA in February.

Would the indoor image quality be comparable on the ZS3 and A2000IS or A2100IS?

Buying this for a friend who basically once a simple point and shoot and will ALWAYS have it in the auto setting; and they don't have a slave flash.

Also interested in your thoughts on the Panasonic DMC-ZR1 with the 8x.

lawnboy-

The advantage of the Panasonic ZR-1 is that it has the advanced OIS system and the new image processor. It is priced at $214.95 at Amazon right now. There are some who fault the 8X optical zoom, as not as desireable, when compared to the ZS-3 model.

I expect to see the ZS-3 upgrade to offer something along the lines of the ZR-1 with the upgraded OIS and the new processor, and retain the 12Xoptical zoom, this would enhance the existing light/high ISO capability of the existing ZS-3 camera.
