By "There are some who fault the 8X optical zoom, as not as desirable" is this due to the reduced zoom level then you mean? 8x instead of 12x?

I expect to see the ZS-3 upgrade to offer something along the lines of the ZR-1 with the upgraded OIS and the new processor, and retain the 12Xoptical zoom, this would enhance the existing light/high ISO capability of the existing ZS-3 camera.

Lawnboy-

That is correct, the "dedicated users" seem to desire the greater zoom.

Have a great day.

its only a fault if you need the extra 100mm equivalent focal length. if you do not, then it really doesn't matter. simple as that.

Thanks Hards80 - Picked up one at Costco yesterday for $229 which included a memory card and case.

Congratulations, lawnboy-

You got yourself an excellent camera. Now its time to have some fun, or your friend to have some fun with the Panasonic ZR-1. Its a rather amazing little camera.

Have a great day.
