Default Ulta Compact P&S with 3" LCD

Looking for sub $300, decent ultra compact P&S camera with 3" LCD (touch or no touch).
Searched through the fourms, found a few candidates,

Nikon Colpix S70, I heard picture quality is not that good specially indoors.
Sony T90, again indoor picture not that good.
Canon SD960, again the picture quality.
Canon SD970, not sub $300 (in Canada). How about the picture quality?
Samsung TL225, again indoor picture not that good.

Did I miss something? Which one would you recommend for decent picture quality at auto settings?
BTW, I'd replacing my 7 year old Canon S45. I suppose all of the above have better quality than S45.

jmain-

Welcome to the Forum. We're glad you dropped by.

I have attached a list of P+S camersa that have LCD's that are 3" or larger. Perhaps that will be helpful to you.

Have a great day.

P&S cameras have never impressed in terms of quality stills. I think they are all fine for sharing photos online and full screen view but once you start cropping into an image and getting closer to 100% view, the shortcomings start to show up.

I have the Samsung TL225 and like it, mostly the macro and super macro modes. I have a good 1 to 1 macro lens for my 7D but still use the TL225 over it for macro shots. Here is a shot of my 7D using the 225 in macro mode. This is actually 5 images merged together to get focus from front to back. Also the indoor quality of the 225 is just fine in my opinion and the HD video recording is actually very good and perfect for online sharing. I will come back to this thread in a few minutes and link to a video taken with the camera once its done uploading.

EDIT>> Video is currently uploading and here is the link to watch it. Even if it does play, you may have to wait a while to get access to the HD version. http://www.youtube.com/watch_private...S0jGL2Ctezvcrw

Finally youtube has processed the video. Remember you need to choose the resolution and do not choose full screen unless it matches the resolution you choose.

Thanks for the info and the sample video.
I was going to get TL225. But once my wife saw T90, that's all she wants to buy now

Just want to add my comments about Sony T90.
It's a cute little sexy camera which takes good pictures when there is enough light. But indoors if the subject is more than 6 feet away, it's crap. Even my 7 year old Canon S45 takes better indoor pictures.

But I'd still be keeping it for my wife. I will continue using my S45 for the time being.

usually the cute/chic cameras have the smallest flashes, but for the audience that usually buys them, they work out fine as they take pics of them and a friend or 2 pretty close-up

the S45 is a great camera. one of my favorite compact digicams of all times was its big brother S50 i had for several years.
