out of that list, i like the Canon Sx20Is as far as general performance. has a good zoom, overall good quality, and good video. the flash is pretty good, but has a hotshoe for any eos speedlight if you need more.

but, you are missing another strong performer in the Panasonic FZ35. in many respects it is similar to the canon sx20is. but is smaller, lighter and its pop-up flash is stronger.

martin _paes-

Welcome to the Forum. We're delighted that you dropped by.

The Canon SX-20 and the Panasonic FZ-35 dominate the super zoom market niche. I looked at both very closely, and decided on the FZ-35 as the better choice. The FZ-35 has much better high ISO capability than the SX-20 and shows less electronic noise. That was a large issue for me.

The SX-20 is a very competent camera, but the FZ-35 matches up better with my shooting style. Unfortunately, Nikon has not done well with P+S cameras for the last two years, and the Nikon L-100 has continued that poor performance record.

Have a great day.

if you plan to use the pop-up flash only. the FZ35 is the better choice. the popup flash is better and the camera is probably a little better image quality.

however, if you plan on purchasing an external flash, like the 270ex or 430exii from canon, the Sx20IS will give you full TTL control, which is really nice.

No, Martin-

The Fz-35 does not have a tilting screen. Please keep in mind the either camera, the SX-20 or FZ-35 will serve you well. I prefer the FZ-35 and the built-in flash unit on the FZ-35 is more powerful than the built-in flash unit on the SX-20.

Personally, I wanted to avoid the AA batteries, and I wanted a lighter camera, and the FZ-35 provided a lithium-ion battery and weighed just 14 ounces, about 1/2 of the weight of the SX-20. So I chose the FZ-35 to go along with my DSLR camera.

Have a great day.
