That is a pretty nice set up, I guess you enjoy marco photography. the sigma gives you a 1:2 macro ability. Very good for handheld work.

Which 50mm lens are you getting the 1.8 or 1.4?

1.4 is quite expensive na.

I will be going for 1.8 since I am a beginner in DSLR.

I cameras I used before are

1. Olympus C 770 UZ

2. Panasonic TZ15

I have the 1.8 it is a very good inexpensive prime lens. It is very good for portrait work.

Which sigma 70-300, the APO DG macro or the plain DG. If the price is not that much of a difference the APO DG is a higher grade lens.

I'm not in any way trying to dampen your enthusiasm but do give your Sigma lens a good run through its exposure system, as I had a similar Sigma (Lens of the year in fact). The problem with it was, it over exposed almost all my shots. So I took it back and the shop told me that it wasn't matching up well with the Canon. So I exchanged for a Canon Equivalent for megabucks, which was fine.I also had a Tamron long lens later on, that was fine also.
No doubt there will now be posts telling you there their Canon/Sigma combo is fine, which will mean my one was a rogue but I just thought I'd warn you to check it out and not leave trying till later.
Anyway I'm glad you made your choice and wish you loads of enjoyment with it.

The tamron 70-300mm Di LD marco is in the same price range and have heard it is a very nice lens for the canon.

I second that. The Tamron 70-300 Di LD is superior to the Sigma 70-300 APO. Keep in mind that there are no excellent lenses with that zoom range in that price range, but the Tamron is better than anything else at up to twice the price.

hi ajith

the camera is easily available here in Delhi, i checked it out just last week in the Connaught Place area...
current price is around 45K bucks with the 18-55mm kit lenses + 4 gb card + bag + canon edge membership program....
you can check on www.naaptol.com and www.compareindia.com to see which all stores in Kolkata are selling the 500D,
besides you can also get the list of dealers in Kolkata from canon.co.in...

hope this helps
