Default Water...Snow...What should I buy?

Hello.

I want to buy a "tough-built" (waterproof, shockproof, crushproof, freezeproof, ...) camera to use on the beach, on the snow...everywhere!

What's the best digital camera I can buy?

Thanks.

Best Regards,
Pedro.

Pedro-

Yes, those cameras do exist. But their image quality is not very good. So as you closely look at the possible cameras in the group, please keep image quality in mind. Here are the cameras in that group.

Canon D-10
Olympus Tough Series
Pentax W-80 and WS-80
Panasonic TS-1/TS-2

Have a great day.

I was in walmart last night and noticed they have the new sanyo waterproof HD photo & video camera there for 299

I've had the E1 model and love it

The Panasonic TS2 seems to be a very nice digital camera and have some of the features I was looking for.
It got HD video mode, a nice optical zoom and it's waterproof, shockproof, dustproof and freezeproof.

Can anyone tell me more about this model (price, when it will be available, etc)?

Thanks.

Sopra;

The Panasonic TS-2 has just been introduced. It is expected to get to dealer's shelves in April. No official price has been set to date. Industry observers, are guess the price will be somewhere between $250.00 to $300.00.

Only in April?

I'm going to New York in two weeks and it was the best time to buying it since I live in Portugal.

Which camera is there in the market that is as good as this Panasonic?

Thanks.

Best Regards,
Pedro.

Pedro-

The Panasonic TS-1 is currently available and very much like the TS-2. The oly difference is the TS-1 has 12mp and the TS-2 has 14mp.

As Sarah Joyce pointed out, the Pentax would meet your needs (I'm not sure on their price - sorry) but they are a wonderful camera. My Father (who has dabbled in Photography for years) has one which I got as a loner for a while and I really liked it. Plus, they're exceptionally portable.

Definitely worth a look if their in your $$$ range.
