it kind of depends. i trust getting a refurb from the manufacturer with their warranty, but feel a little less safe from some of these "refurb depot" type places.

If you get a referb get it form a reputable dealer like adorama.com they carry factory referbs form the manufacture. It comes with a 1 year warranty. And as it has been explain on this board. Some factory refrebs are lenses pull form the line, because of defects. They are then repaired, tested more so then a production line model. But since it has be pull form the line, it can no longer be sold as new.

Nech -

My experience with refurbished items is pretty good, but only one was a lemon. It was a Nikon D-50 DSLR camera on which I had the traditional 90 day warranty. We the D-50 failed on the 92 day of ownership. Nikon said they had done their part and quoted be $452 to repair the camera. That was more than I had paid for the camera. I ended up having to eat the deal.

I felt safe as it was a Nikon refurb. That proved to be false. I would be very careful.
