Default Need to buy new P&S camera under $200

I am looking for new point and shoot camera with a budget of $200.00. The camera will replace old outdated Fuji FinePix 2600 that has now died. Camera usage will be primarily pets, vacation, holidays and occasional record snow fall. Here are some features that I am looking for:
10MP or greater
5x optical lens or greater
Taking short movies would be great
Rechargeable battery is optional as well

Here is some pics take from the Fuji FinePix 2600 before it died.

seasonalsole-

Welcome to the Forum. We're glad that you dropped by.

The under $(US)200.00 market is fairly small. Here is a list:

Canon A-490
Canon A-495
Canon A-1100 4x optical zoom 10mp about $129
Canon A-2100 4X optical zoom, 12mp about $160e c
Canon SD-1200 3X optical zoom, 10mp about $150
Canon SD-780, 3X optical zoom, 12 mp, HD video, about $195
Kodak Z-915 10X optical zoom, 10mp about $130
Samsung SL-620 5X optical zoom, 12 mp about $130

The Canon A490/A495 are new to the Canon line and will probably sell for about $100. Keep in mind that those two cameras do not have IS. The Canon SD-1300 will replace the SD-1200, and the A-3000/A-31000 will replace the A-1100/A-2100 in the current line-up.

The Samsung SL-420 is last year's camera, but can be found on dealer shelves at around $100. If you go above $200, the features and quality increases rapidily, and the Sony H-20. 10mp, 10X optical zoom, with the best Automatic Mode and the best built-in flash unit in the compact zoom class, also has HD video and allow zooming while filming. It sells for around $230.00.

Sarah,

I saw the H20 for $199 just the other day. So the o.p. may be able to find a similar deal, and thats a wonderful camera for that price!

at office depot of all places, i was in there looking for some ink or paper or something and happen to walk by the cameras.

instant savings ends tomorrow. so better hurry!

That is the lowest price I have seen on the Sony H-20. Its a very good deal.

I will pick up one this week as I was still debating to get the H-20 or the DSC-W290 for something more compact. After reading about zoom vs pixels, I decided on the H-20, as it is a well balance camera, plus zooming while in HD movie mode.

Forget about the W290. It suffers from soft corners. The H20 has a very good center and edge sharpness.

There is no doubt that the H-20 is a far better camera than the W-290, which received poor professional reviews.
