Default Canon P&S: SD780IS vs. SD940IS

My Canon A80 from 2004 is dying. After reading a ton all over the place, I've been brainwashed into sticking with Canon due to the quality of pictures, video, functionality, body, and construction.

Reading reviews and comparing specs, it looks like these 2 cameras are almost the same camera as they both use the same lens, sensor, etc. The only difference I could really find between them are:

1) 3x vs. 4x
2) 2.5" LCD vs. 2.7" LCD
3) Made in Japan vs. Made in China
4) Viewfinder vs. no viewfinder (not important)

Me: Very amateur photographer. I don't know the difference between ISO vs. YUGO vs. Megawatts vs. PEPCAK. I just want a good camera for the money. I shoot most everything on Auto. My wife is even more camera impaired than I am, however, she takes much better pictures than me.

Things I'm looking for

1) About $200 (Priced [email protected]$180, [email protected]$220)
2) As small as I can get, hence these 2 choices
3) Good picture quality (of course)
4) 720p HD video
5) Easy to use

Is it worth the extra ~$40 for the 0.20" bigger viewfinder?
Which would you choose of the 2?
Would you go with something else? I compared some comparable Panasonics' pictures online and chose these 2 because of both picture quality and size.

Thanks!

the sd940 has a wide-angle lens, making it worth the extra money.

But the Samsung TL320 at $199 with a 24mm wide angle is an even better deal. A TL320 photo sample is attacheded.

Thanks for the inputs Hards80 and mtclimber! I just wish that the Samsung was a little smaller

Here is a photo that shows the SD-780 and the TL-320 side by side. The difference is very small indeed (3/8") and the thickness is about the same. That seems like you are splitting hairs, instead of seeking out the best camera. The 5X versus 3X optical zoom and better image quality makes the TL-320 worth the extra 3/8th of 1 inch.

Pretty nice, mtclimber. 3" display on top of that! My search just got tougher. And here I was, thinking it would be easy picking a new simple camera :O
