All P&S pocket cams have barrel distortion but it is typically corrected in-camera. For some reason, Sony does not correct the barrel distortion in the video of the HX5V. The distortion problem with the HX5V is at the wide end.

You can avoid this by zooming in a bit before recording or you can correct it in post-production with Adobe Premiere or a similar program.

digicam5-

The barrel correction is corrected by the image processor on all still photos.

yes, and even on the video it is not a big deal for me really, i checked out the new Casio H15 and though it is not bad (has the Best Shot in it something like the HDR) the Sony HX5 and even the Canon 210 are much better...

I think I will stick with Sony HX5.

HX5 vs SX210IS
1/2.4 CMOS vs 1/2.3 CCD
10.2MP vs 14.1MP
25-250mm vs 28 - 392mm
1920x1080 vs 1280x720

A while ago while I was shopping for a PnS, I almost bought the Canon SX200IS. Then read so many compliants with the popup flash. So, I decided to wait a bit longer to see if Canon come out with next version, thus the SX210IS. Quote "Key changes include the ability to stow the pop-up flash". Really the flash thing is a small thing to me, but if there was so many complains, I thought to better back out. I am also little aware about Canon being "behind" at the game (can be good thing?).

Both many features, Sony wins. Even I do prefer lessen wide-shot, sony is little too wide. But again, seems most photographer in this forums prefer wider. So, I'll take my chance with 25mm, let away with 28mm.

Interesting all of sudden, many compact "superzoom" cameras are poping up lately.

and it all started in 2005 with the Ricoh R3 with 28 mm and a 7x zoom in a tiny 95 x 53 x 26 mm (3.7 x 2.1 x 1 in) size
the TZ1 came out later and was only a 35 mm wide

The 10fps is kinda cool for that 1 sec burst, but then locks up the camera for 16 sec to write the info.

Nice shot of the 757, love all the people right on the beach. Great food on the French side.
