I have 2 point and shoot myself, I know what the compromise is. And I am well aware that on the point and shoot front, they really do not perform well indoors low light. It is the nature of a p&s. The difference are not dramatic, that it is really incorrect to say on point and shoot has good low light, while the truth is it preforms slightly better then another. But it is still not stellar.

Yes the G11 is in a different class but the low light ability of the g11 is also in the s90, which is a point and shoot in size and weight. With some added bridge camera features.

Isn't there a sony center at the metreon, I know that in nyc at the sony plaza they have sony items to try out. Not as much as the sony metreon when I was last in SF. It may be a good place to play with one of the HX5V

Sony shut it down earlier this month.

I am San Francisco. Anyway, I stopped by today. They have the Sony in stock and I played around with it. Nice. I asked the sales person about comparable cameras in terms of camera (i.e. no video criteria) and pricing. He pointed me to the ZS1 (@$299). In his opinion, he thought it was a better camera in terms of the "glass." Of course, most of his rationale was over my novice head, but he said that the Sony was obviously targeted to people more in tune w/video requirements. Also, that it kind of "bugged" him that Sony marketed "Zeiss glass" when in fact it was Minolta.

Again, right, wrong or other, don't shoot the messenger.

Yeah Abe's is legit though their customer service sucks. I went in person and asked to see a Canon HF11. He took it out and after letting me handle it for about 30 seconds asked if I wanted it before holding his hand out to get it back. I then proceeded to ask him a few questions about the HF11 vs the Panasonic TM350 and he told me he couldn't recommend one over the other because he "had a good reputation with all of the manufacturers." Then as he sees me heading for the door he says "Canon simply makes a better product." After that experience I went to buy my camera elsewhere.
