Default Sony Cybershot HX1 or Nikon Coolpix P100

Hello,

Kindly suggest me which to buy among Sony HX1 or Nikon P100.
I am not able to decide which one to select among the two.

Open to other model suggestions also. My Preference is High Optical Zoom (above 10x) , with HD/Full HD Video Recording capabality.
Preferabley with a CMOS Sensor.

I am from India. US Conversion Price within 500 USD.

My Third Preference is Sony HX5 which is not yet released in India.

huntersvk-

Welcome to the Forum. We are delighted that you dropped by.

Both the HX-5 and the HX-1 are very good cameras. However, you must keep in mind that the HX-5 only zooms to 250mm(10X optical zoom) and has no EVF. The HX-1 has a very good evf and zooms to 560mm (20X optical zoom).

So in large measure, your own subject matter (the items you normally photograph or want to photograph in the future) and the amount of zoom and the need for an evf will dictate your camera choice.

thank you Sarah for the reply.

i would prefer sony hx1 over hx5 for its high zoom, evf, tilting lcd and other features.

Which would be a better Choice between "Sony HX1" and "Nikon P100" ?

The IQ is not that great on the HX1, it does not produce as nice of an image as the HX5V form some of the test results I have seen. Cnet did not give the HX1 a great review saying the image were soft.

Not sure about the P100 as it is pretty new.

Well I happen to disagree with the previous poster. The HX-1 is capable of very good image quality as you can see from the attached photo.

There are no professional reviews of the P-100 yet. But based on the camera it is replacing, the P-90, and because the P-100 is being manufactured by the same Chinese factory that produced the P-90, we can only assume that it will have some of the same characteristics that were found in the P-90. The P-90 exhibited noise even at its base ISO settings. Photos taken at ISO settings greater than ISO 400 are barely usable, at best they will produce a below average 4" X 6" print.

Here is a 100% crop of the above photo so you can see fine detail.

With the samples against the HX1 and HX5V, the HX5V seems a bit better. How does the sony compare the the fz35? In the megazoom realm, the FZ seems to be the king of the hill right now.

Here are just couple of reviews for what it is worth.
