Default In need of desperate quick help!!!

My wife and I are leaving on Wed for a trip to Napa and San Fran. I do not feel like lugging my Canon Xti and lens with me. We were looking for a good P&S that takes very good quality images both indoor and outdoor. I have attempted to do some research and am now pulling my hair out. I would like to spend up to $300. I have looked at the following but cant make up my mind. PLEASE HELP!!!

Fuji F70 EXR
Canon A3100
Canon sd1400
Sony Hx5
Sony W330
Panasonic Zs5
Panasonic FH22

Any recomondations are welcome. Thanks!!!!

cazzara-

Welcome to the Forum. We're delighted that you dropped by.

The best camera on your list with the smallest learning curve is clearly, the Sony HX5. If you pass on that camera take a look at the Sony H-20 or the Panasonic ZR1 which Costco has on special at $170, but you will need a small accessory Slave Flash to cover for the weak and small ZR1 built-in flash.

What are the differences between the zs5 and the zs1? And would I need a flash for the zs1?

I am going to look at the Hx5 and Hr-20 tonight. The Hx5 may be out of my price range. I have read some good reviews about the Fuji F70exr. How does that compare?

cazzara-

The models are the Sony HX5 and H-20.

Yes, The Panasonic ZS, ZR, and ZX series all require a Slave Flash to restore the indoor image quality to normal. Neither Sony camera require a Slave Flash assist.

cazzara-

The Zs1 is the 2009 model. The ZS-5 is the 2010 model. Neither takes HD video. The ZS5 has more mps, and reduced image quality. The ZS3 is the 2009 model. Both the ZS3 and Zs7 show lots of lens flare when shooting video. Personally I would avoid the ZS series.

The Sony H-20 is a much better camera in about the same price range: around $240. Again the Best choice is the Sony HX5 at $349.

what about the Sony H55? They do not have the H20 where I am shopping tonight and as I said I need to get it tonight or tomorrow as my trip is Wednesday.

cazzara-

The H55 is a Sony HX5 with a conventional 14mp imager. It has received mixed user reviews and there has been no professional review that I know of yet.

OK- I found an Australian review of the H-55 at this link:

Another camera to look for is the Samsung HW15Z: 12mp, 10X optical zoom (24mm to 240mm) it is less than $(US)200.00 at Amazon to give you an idea of the price range.
