Default Panasonic ZR1?

Hi, I've read through many threads on here trying to pick a inexpensive but fast P&S. I'm in the $200 price range...less is obviously better.

I currently use a Nikon D50 and love it, but want a small one to carry around in my purse.

Generally speaking, I want it to be quick between shots and take quality photos. I would like to be able to use a video mode. Usually would just be taking family shots, kids, etc. I would use my Nikon for anything I wanted great quality with.

Is this still the best camera you recommend? Or has something else come out in the $200 price range?

If you know where any deals are that would help too.

Thanks!

I use my ZR1 as my small digicam when my serious cameras are too big. Usually it stays in my computer bag for work or console of my car.

I am very pleased with the results, good lens, good fast shooting performance and it does have HD video. I was able to get mine with case at Costco for 170$. That is a hard deal to beat.

Thank you for the input. Costco does not have that deal any longer. Anyone else have any tips?

Still checking to make sure this is the camera to buy though.

How about the Panasonic ZS1 at $179 at J&R?

I bought the ZR1 at Costco 2 days ago - $170 with 2gb SD card. The online inventory may be gone, but your local store may still have the ZR1 in stock at this price.

The ZR1 has also been pulled off of Costco website as well.

The HX5 sells for $(US) 349.00 and the OP wants to stay below $(US)200.00.

What is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH20K camera , available at Costoc for $189. Is that a costco version of the zr1 or similar?

rorocat-

The FH20 is a spin off of the ZR1. Instead of the 12mp imager found on the ZR1, the FH-20 uses a 14mp imager.
