Default Price of the 50D has fallen dramatically in Norway - What's up...?

As I am - forever - looking, not for a replacement-camera to my G1, but an additional camera with a proper APS-C sized sensor, I have stubled across Canon (again....!) and try to find my way around there.

The 50D (house only) has had a price-drop from NOK 7.995,- (equals $ 1.415,-) to NOK 4.995,- (equals $ 885,-) in Norway lately!! This is quite a substantial drop, IMO.

What is the reason for this?

Is the successor of th 50D just around the corner?

BTW, I feel sorry for those who have just bought a 50D just a forthnight ago...

several reasons for price drop.

the 50d has been around for a while now, its getting quite far into a dslr product lifecycle.

the 7d

the 50d lacks video which so many people desire now

t2i

and if you believe rumors, the 60d will be released later this year.

no reason to feel sorry for those that just bought the 50d. it being replaced does not diminish its abilities as a camera. and those that have purchased in the last month or so have got a heck of a deal. for those not needing video, there is little better you can do than the 50d.

So, has the price dropped equally in the US then?

An additional question (TCav special...?)

I do have a brand new AF-S Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5 - 5.6 ED VR kit-zoom in my posession (from a deal-gone-wrong with a used D300 which I no longer have), so that binds me to Nikon, more than I care for since this is limiting my camera buying-options (selling this lens would certainly loose me roughly 30% - and as far as I know it's optical quality is rather good - for a zoom-lens that is).

- Is there a suitable adapter to be able to put this lens onto a Canon EOS? The 50D for example? In that case I would buy a down-priced EOS 50D now, before they disappear.

- And will this be the "full works" - like AF-confirmation - and so on, or does such an adapter limit me to a manual focussing mode?

...

no, you would not be able to do anything like that.

your best bet is probably sticking with Nikon, that is a nice lens and an upgrade from the kits.
