Default Camera for Wife!

Ok gang, can you help a guy to stay out of the anniversary dog-house? The wife would like a point & shoot that: (1) has minimal lag time to capture the kids, (2) has a reasonable zoom capability, (3) and is easy to operate. Must also have some video function. Bonus would be waterproof, but not a requirement---must have minimal lag time and reasonable zoom. We realize it won't compete with the Canon 30D I'm using, but she wants something portable and easy. What do you suggest? Thanks!

Lag time will be an issue no matter which camera you get.

sony HX5V is a good camera, HD 10x zoom, lots of cool features.
panasonic ZS7 12x zoom, HD and lots of cool features
canon SX210 14x zoom, HD, not as many cool feature that will most likely give it a longer battery life.

These seems to be the top 3 point and shoots currently on the market, that will fit your 90% of your requirements without knowing budget. Just not waterproof
Super Frequent Flyer, no joke. Ex Patriot and loving it.
Canon Eos 60D, T1i/500D, Eos1, Eos 630, Olympus EPL-1, and a part time Pentax K-X shooter.
