Default Action sport lens

Hey everyone

My father has a T1i, and I want to buy him a lens for sport shooting outdoors. I'm on a budget, quite tight actually, and after some lens research i came up with a few options:

1.Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS
2.
Canon EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 III
3.
Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro
4.
Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6 APO DG Macro
5.Any other appropriate&cheap lens...

To me they are all quite the same...but there must be one better or something for sport shooting. I'll take all advices. Thanks

The ef 55-250 is the sharpest of the zooms, but not very fast in auto focus.
The ef 75-300 is not a good lens at all and you really should avoid it.
Think allot of member say the tamron 70-300 will do a okay job for sport, it seems slight faster then the 55-250 in focus
The sigma may be fast enough, not sure. Never had it mounted to my t1i.

Welcome to Steve's.

Before making suggestions it's best to get a fuller picture of the sport/s will he want to shoot, is it only day games or will you need to shoot under the lights? Are we talking shooting from the stands or with field access?

If you look at the list of lens and the request of tight budget, we can gather we need a sub 300 dollar lens.

Thanks for the welcome

Well I think he shoots both from the stands and with field access. (Pro games/Youth games)

Mainly day games. There might be an occasional night game/indoor game, but he enjoys more shooting Football/Soccer/Baseball.

For outdoor sports in daylight, 300mm will come in handy. None of the lenses you mentioned would be particularly good at it, but the Tamron 70-300 Di LD would probably be the best and it's not very expensive either.

Make sure it's the Di LD. Tamron makes a cheaper version that isn't as good. If you can't find one, then the Sigma APO is ok but more expensive.
