Default Coin photography

I need a camera that takes good coin pictures, it must bring out detail without distortion, it must take pictures of silver dollars even when they are quite shiny.

Also, if anyone knows the tricks of doing this with the camera that would be appreciated since there seems to be quite a learning curve to accomplish this with any degree of expertise.

Woody-

You are very correct. Taking photos of coins is a learned skill. Here is a sample photo that I took of a coin with the Canon G-11, as an experiment, using the macro mode and existing light.

OK, Woody-

Here is another coin experiment. This photo was taken with the Kodak Z980 camera, again using existing light, an even smaller coin, and the Camera's Super Macro Mode.
