Default Nikon Coolpix P100 or Canon Powershot SX20IS

Hi there!

I'm hoping someone can help me pick out a camera to suprise my husband for his birthday. Electronic purchases are his area of expertise not mine, but as I am trying to surprise him, I'm trying to do all the research on my own.

I know he wants a good zoom and the capability to video. We have 3 little kids so I would like a fast camera (we always seem to miss the good smiles because the digitals take so darn long!)

We currently have a Canon Powershot A630, so I know he's comfortable with Canons which is making me lean toward the SX20IS, but my father-in-law suggested the Nikon Coolpix P100 as he feels it is a better value.

I am using credit card points to defray the costs, so I am limited by which cameras the rewards program offers...that's how I narrowed it down to these two. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks a bunch!!

Panasonic FZ35 if you want one of the best in the megazoom class. The P100 lag a bit behind the other high end megazooms like the panasonic FZ35, Fuji HS10, Canon SX20. But the FZ35 and HS10 are the class leaders currently. The SX20 is a good megazoom as well.

tinkerbella-

Just keep in mind that the Canon SX-20 is due for a replacement model in Fall 2010. In my opinion, I would stay away from the Nikon P-100 as it shows considerable noise (graininess) in its images even at low ISO settings.

P100 is a bit behind the SX210IS even though it is newer. If you want something that just came out the HS10 form fuji is a great megazoom.

You should give serious second thoughts to the following cameras:

Nikon P-100

Nikon P-90

Canon SX-210

Fuji S-1800 through S-2500

Each of these cameras have some serious/measurable problems. I am willing to discuss those problems, but please take this as a "heads-up" message to alert you.

Here is a list of super zoom cameras worth consideration:

Panasonic FZ-35/38

Canon SX-10

Canon SX-20
