I think LTZ has a great idea-

I also have a Tamron 18-250 on my Sony A-230, and it has been a good single lens solution. I have attached a recent photo sample taken in Skagway, Alaska.

Thats a BIG Wow! Sarah...very beautiful shot....the only thing wrong with it is I wasn't there when you took it...lol...we are definitely planning an Alaskan Cruise for next year...please let everyone know which one you are teaching classes on...we may actually try and make it...

both the tamron 18-250 and 18-270 are good travel lens, but with the canon I would go with the 18-270 with the VC. It helps out at the long end.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS is my recommendation.

Nikon D700/ AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
