Default S90 and ZS-5

Why is the Canon S90 better than the Panasonic ZS5 in low light. I am just seeing posts on this in other forums.

Thanks

The S90 has a much larger sensor than the ZS5/ZS7. The ZS7 was designed as an all-around camera. The S90 is definitely not an all-around cam and was designed mroe for IQ within a pocketable format. It's doesn't do HD video or have a long zoom like the ZS5/ZS7. The Panasonic LX3 is Panasonic's S90 equivalent.

The S90 also has a faster lens than the ZS5/ZS7, particularly at its wide end which starts at f/2. The lens therefore lets in more than twice the amount of light as the ZS7 (which I think starts at f/3.3 or something like that) at the same ISO.

If you need to shot in low light the S90 is the better camera. But that will cause you to compromise HD and a long zoom. But you do get better image quality and really usable 1600iso performance

Think I am still sticking with the ZS5, I like the zoom, feel and HD and Macro.
Thanks

Shoturtle: Have you ever tried the Zeikos brand Slave Flash. Mtclimber recommended this for low light conditions.

Thanks

A slave flash will give the better low light with the panasonic, I have used zeikos in the past, and they work fine for point and shoot cameras to give them better low light ability. But I am not a big fan of flash washout. That flash in general will give.

Warren-

There you have it! It all about imager size, and the S-90 has a much larger imager than the ZS5.
