16G holds about 2500 on high quality JPEG, 4500 on low quality JPEG and about 800 on RAW+JPEG - all at the full 12MP

Card speed depends a bit on what you need - faster for burst shooting and video - not so much if you're taking single pics and can wait a second or two while it saves them.

The battery I got isn't panasonic brand but fits and works just fine.

so ok there's a flash deal on the camera for the next 2 days at the site...going for 288...that's a great deal here since at a big store i saw it as 425 yesterday.

My only issue is that they might be releasing a new model in the fall..

Should i just go for it or will it be worth the wait in theory?

Are we still talking about the FZ38 here? If so, €425 would be
way over the odds. On-line stores are selling it for under €300.
Just as an example, the Pixmania price is €289.

As it's your money, that's your choice to make. My advice
would be to buy it now if you need it now. Your choice of currency
suggests you are in Europe. The weather is good at the moment
and you will probably have several thousand pictures taken by
the time the now model comes out.

orion-

Can you tell us the model of flash being offered for 288 euros? That seems like a very high price in view of the fact that I use a Digital Concepts flash that is powerful enough to even do bounce flash technique photos, and it cost $(US)40.00 delivered to my home.

@sarah: I think it's a quick, short-term event (like a flash-flood) - for 2-days the camera is 288 euros.

@orion: Looking at comments from when the FZ38 came out, i'd expect an FZ48? to be better but not enough to make you sore that you'd got the FZ38. I'd expect it to be between 300-350 so that remaining FZ38s will still sell but so it's not quite competing with entry-level SLRs.

Many thanks, Martin, for clearing up that issue-

That is a good price on the FZ-38, but my initial understand was that Orion was posting about an external flash unit. Shame on me. I apologize.

Sorry Sarah yeah it's a "flash" event, meaning its an extra discount price for a couple of days. (should have made that clearer)

Yeah i'm in europe (Portugal) and that good deal i found is at pixmania.pt 288.
But yeah that 425 price is what i saw it going for at the regular retail store (mediamarkt) where i went to get a "hands on feel" of it.
At fnac.pt its even priced at 449..and i can get it at pixmania for about 160 less just ridiculous how much retail stores profit over here

The fz38 seems to be a very nice camera from what i've heard, and afterall it's only 1 year old tech...i just didn't want to buy it and then regret i didn't wait for the newer model.

Like you say the nice weather is here (well it's suposed to be ..damn global warming), and this is a nice deal for it, so i'm probably going to take it

I have to echo what Ms. Sarah stated. The FZ-35/38 is an awesome Camera. It has capabilities that will make even an experienced photographer pleased. Just got mine and am really enjoying this feature packed camera.

I love devices that constantly surprise you with features and options. When it comes to the FZ35/38 I think my only limitation will be my imagination!
