shaybay-

Welcome to the Forum. We're please that you dropped by.

I have shot with both cameras. I returned the Nikon P-100 because of noise. There was even noise present at the lowest ISO settings and it just became worse as the ISO setting was elevated. Passing ISO 400 it was actually causing a visually noticable loss of fine detail and image quality. Therefore, I returned the Nikon P-100.

The Sony HX-1 is not stellar, but it is much better in terms of noise and has a very respectful HD video mode as well. So my choice was the HX-1. Below you will find a link to a full resolution HX-1 photo for your reference.

In terms of pure image quality, it is very hard to surpass the Sony H-2.

With all their limitations (from being old), the H1/H2 are probably the two best Sony super zoom models. Just like my R1, I will never sell the H1. It's only a 5 MP camera with ISO up to 400 but it takes gorgeous pictures and the flash is excellent.

I don't have any hands on experience with either model suggested by the OP but from all I've read, Nikon never quite got their super zoom models to the levels that Panasonic, Canon and Sony are.
