Default Canon SX20-IS vs Sony DSC-HX1 vs Nikon P100 vs Fuji HS10

I am a new member here. I am a beginner in photography. I intend to use it just for pleasure. Currently, I have Nikon L12. I am looking to upgrade and buy a megazoom digital camera. I don't want to buy a D-SLR, because it would be too expensive for my use. I read about Canon SX20-IS, Sony DSC-HX1, Nikon P100 and Fuji HS10. I am not able to make up my mind. Could someone say which would be good for a beginner who hopes to improve his skills in the next few years?

Welcome to the Forum. We're pleased that you dropped by.

Firstly, I would drop the Nikon P100 from your list as it is far below the performance level of the other three cameras. Then I would ask why the Panasonic FXZ-35/38 was not included on your list.

As a beginner, and looking for a super zoom, you want a really user friendly camera. The user friendly and easiest to use camera is clearly the Panasonic FZ-35. Just check-out the recent DPR Super Zoom Review, the FZ-35 and FZ-35 equally share the top honor. The dividing line is the user friendliness and the small er size of the FZ-35 that pushes it ahead of the SX-20.

We have a large number of FZ-35 users in our Panasonic P+S Folder. Check it out! There you will find lots of photo samples, a Beginners Guide and user lot of FZ-35 photo hits from caring users.
