Default What's your top super zoom choices?

Hey Everyone,
I'm just a photographer hobbyist you could say. I just recently signed up to the forum. I've been here before and I love the site. We have a small Sony DSC-w7 now. It doesn't have IS and I end up with a lot of out of focus pics when I zoom. It only has 3X optical zoom and I hate that after trying to use it.

I have seen in your posts that you really like the Panasonic FZ-35 as do many others.
Would it be your final choice for a Super Zoom camera?
I would like something easy to use that will give good results without a lot of help from me.
If it wouldn't be too much to ask, what would be your top picks in the 300.00-400.00 dollar range?
I just don't want spend money unwisely. I'm a novice in the photography realm but enjoy taking all types of pics.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.
Terry

Thanks,
How do you like your Panasonic ZS-3? Does it perform well for you?

Both definitely seem popular but I have been eyeing that Fujifilm HS-10 for awhile now. Details are a bit smeared at 100% crop with that BSI sensor but you also get the benefits of that sensor also so it's a trade-off like anything else.

What is the major differences between ZS-3 and the ZS-7? Is one much better than the other?

IMO the top super zoom cameras are:
#1 Fuji HS-10
#2 Panasonic FZ-35
#3 Canon SX-20

However, while the Fuji HS-10 is brand new, the FZ-35, and the SX-20 are slated to be replaced by new models. The announcement on these to replacement models will come in the next three weeks. Inventory will be on dealer's shelves in time for the 2010 Christmas market.

I do not consider the Panasonic ZS series to be super zoom cameras. They are more realistically travel or compact zoom cameras because they do not have an EVF, and they have painfully weak built-in flash units that adversely affect their indoor image quality.

The HS10 won the 2010 TIPA Award for Superzoom, which is not to be taken too lightly

Thanks everyone for your responses. Sorry Sarah about the private question. With your education background I was just going to the source first. I admire your expertise in the field. I wasn't sure about protocol but I will post all questions to the boards in the future.
Once again, Thanks to all!!

It, too, is a GREAT P&S compact. Best I've ever had. It is my in-the-pocket-take-with-me-everywhere camera. IQ is terrific and macros... wow!

lgbtrain-

The new FZ45 and FZ-100 were announced in Stockholm this morning, so there will soon be sample photos available. Please keep in mind that othe than increasing the zoom from 18X to 24X the changes to the FZ-35 seem to be few in number.

That is a real tribute to the design of the FZ-35. It was pretty darned good. The next thing that will probably happen is that as soon as the new models reach the dealers, the price of the FZ-35 will probably begin to fall. That is also good news.

Keep in mind that the Fuji HS-10 remains the newest super zoom in the marketplace and it has received very good professional and user reviews.
