Default Replacement for Canon A85

I need to replace my Canon A85 that gave out after 4 1/2 years.
Looking for faster shutter response and clearer images, always have a hard time getting my daughter to pose for photos.
I also have a Canon Elura 100 video camera.
Should I stay with Canon Sd1400, SD780, 940 or 980? to use one software or are there better option from other compnies?

Welcome to the forum. We're pleased that you dropped by.

You have not told us what your projected budget is for your Canon A-85 replacement. Lacking that information, I am going to suggest the most cost and image quality effective solution.

Take a look at the Kodak Z-950. It is selling at Amazon for $111.95 and it gives you very good image quality with 10X optical zoom along with a HD video in which you can zoom while filming.

Even with a $250 budget you won't get any better image quality or HD video better than the Kodak Z-950 camera.

Sarah,

The Z950 does look like a nice camera I havent been able look at one locally.
Z981 is that good?

I do have some concerns since I havent seen one in person.
Why is it so cheap though some sites on Amazon?
Is it discontinued? Crutchfield no longer carries it

If stay with Canon what would be good?
My thoughts in order
SD940
SD980-discontinued model?
SD1400
SD960
SD780- I think I have elimated due to reviews
And I just found a SX200 for $249

Then there are myCostco options
Samsung HZ230w
Panasonic ZS6

Nikon coolpix 8000
Sony and Cascio options
Sorry to be running on with this I'm trying to get something by the weekend or at least ordered

I will cut to the chase. Yes, the SD-940 costs more, but it is no better than the Kodak Z-950. Does that make it a better camera, just because it costs more? I will levae that up to you.

The Kodak Z-980/Z-981 is not a bad camera at all, but actually the Z-950 is a bit better. What have you got to loose? Amazon has a bullet proof 30 day, no charge return policy.

But then, I will also let you make that decision as well.

Yes, this is the time of year when new cameras are announced, and we then see those new cameras in mid October in time for the 2010 Christmas Market. So yes, I would guess that Kodak will be replacing both the Z-915 and the Z-950 cameras. However, with the large price reduction, Kodak is funneling the remaining inventory to mass merchandizers like Amazon to sell their remaining inventory.

People have already reported that the "big box" stores do not have the Z-950 in stock. If your wife heads out to purchase, I am sure that she will find the Z-981. It is a good camera, but much larger in physical size. if you do oder the Z-950 from amazon, I have already written a "Beginner's Guide to the Z-950" that does help folks get started with the camera. We have two Z-950's in our family and they get heavy and enthusiastic use.

I found a Z950 locally at Office Max the guy there was very enthusiastic about this camera, but it was not charged>
He said he would get it charged so I could check it out the next day.

Yesterday I saw it in operation my only issue are :
1.seemed take a little time to focus on Zoom
2.an the display was a little grainy
3. not sure of size.

The kisd working there yesterday recommended thy Olympus 7010 on sale for $129 with 7x zoom it seemed nice and he said xD cards are faster than others?
And the 9000 which they didnt have.
I did find any reviews here on the 7010 but did find the 7040 not great.

If I want that size camera any recommendations?
