Default Best digital camera with full 1080p HD Video

Because of a disability, I would like to carry one dual purpose camera (for pictures and video), and recording high quality video with good sound is a key to my reaching this objective.

I just purchased the Olympus 800SU for $229 (after rebate) at Costco, only to discover that it does not permit Optical zoom with sound while in video recording mode. That is a serious oversight for me. Most of the online tools I have seen to assist in camera feature selection either don't have the 1080" feature as a selection filter in their database, or they don't give accurate results.

Are there any digital cameras in the $500 or less range that record in full 1080 HD quality with optical zoom ? If there are none at that price point, I am willing to pay higher for this feature.

Thanks for any advice or info.

Sony HX5V shoots at 1080 and can zoom while shooting video. About 330 dollars and it is a compact point and shoot with a 10x zoom.

Thanks for the tip-are you sure you can (optically) zoom while in video mode? i just read a user review that says

Value for Price
'The video is amazing considering the small point and shoot camera size. I've used it several times and it makes for some great Youtube and on computer videos. I wouldn't consider it for your only video camera, but push come to shove...it certainly takes great video. you can't use the zoom while shooting video, but thats OK with me. You can zoom in as needed and then start recording. I think most people do too much zooming while shooting anyway, so this isn't a negative in my book."

I would look at the Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000 ...if you are looking for Camera/Video...and HD Video is important...
