it is a good camera in good lighting, but the evils are not great for action shooting. The refresh rate of the evf is not fast enough and the AF system is not as quick as the phase detect from a dslr.

So if you do not need low light or fast AF, it is a good camera.

well it will shoot well upto 1250iso, then it gets really noise. My epl-1 which is also a m4/3 is only good upto 2000iso. They used the same sensor as the G1,G2,GF1,G10. But Oly does a bit more tweaking to give it cleaner high iso performance.

So if you indoor shots allow you to shoot without a flash at 800-1250iso. Then it will work, if you need higher iso like 1600, get some good noise reduction software. And it will clean it up a bit.

I you need low light, I would look at a canon s95 if compact is important. But the g1 will do a better job. Just accept that higher iso will bring in more noise. And you will be fine.

So, overall, the G1 would be the better buy?

if you are looking for more compact now. It is really no that much smaller then your old dslr. I would look at a GF1 or and olympus epl-1 if you want higher image quality in a smaller package.
