Default Hiking/backpacking/fishing pocket camera

What would be a good pocket camera to take into the back country. I saw the review on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR and it seems to be a good choice. What are some others to consider in the $300 ballpark?

since you express interest in backpacking fishing, you may consider a waterproof/rugged camera that can take a dunk in the stream or a drop from a pocket.

Short list:
Sony Tx5
Panasonic FT2

both offer shock/water resistance and are slim in profile and would easily fit in the pocket. both offer good image quality comparable to their non-shock/weather resistant brethren.

The Samsung AQ-100 is another waterproof camera that has gotten good reviews.

the tough 8010 is the toughest camera out there. It has the best waterproofing of all the waterproof camera on the market. But image quality is not as good as the panasonic.

I bought the 770sw when it first came out and i still love it to this day, i have beaten, submerged and torn it apart for going on 3 years now, and i have taken it on every backpacking, rock climbing or outdoor trip ive been on and i adore it. Saying this i can imagine that the newer versions will blow mine out of the water, maybe time for me to upgrade?

If you want a super tough camera, the 8010 is the 800 pound gorilla right now, none of the other shock proof and water proof camera are built to a beating standard as the 8010

actually I saw a motorcyclist that I ride with sometimes take a spill with the 8010 in his back pocket, he skidded on his backside a good 50ft after the crash, and the cameras still work after he got out of the hospital

8010 is way heavy though and the IQ is soft...definitely the Panasonic TS2 it's got much better IQ than the Oly's...
we own the Tough 6000 and the Panasonic TS1...TS1 has much better IQ and is easy to use...
