I surely do agree on the Pentax Kx.

Ok so I can get the Pentax Kx kit with the 18-55 and 50-200 for $609 shipped, and this is def a better cam than the canon or the nikon?

Please explain why.
I have seen the specs and the only feature it seems to be missing is live focus indicator - not that big a deal. Just wanting to be for sure - all my 'serious' photographer friends either have canon or nikon - is this just like Nike and reebok? That there are other brands as good or better for the same price? That many people have just bought in to the brand?

the 50-200mm is not as good of a lens, the 55-300 is a much better lens.

Also I would check that dealer rating on the online seller rating sites.

Oh no...you can't possibly have anything better than Canon or Nikon, can you? After all, these are the "PRO's" brands and...they know better. So, I'd go for one of the two. Just make sure you get a "PRO" model (Canon EOS 5D Mark II or Nikon D700) otherwise, you may get disappointed when you find out that the ordinary Canon T1i or Nikon D3000 are outperformed by the Kx.

Amazon has the Kx two-lens kit for $629. That's just $20 more than Tristatecamera deal you found. I'd not by from them...you'll regret.
