Default FZ38 or FZ45

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, and am looking for my first superzoom (previous camera an ancient 3x zoom). I had narrowed it down to the FZ38, but like the idea of the longer zoom on the FZ45 provided the image quality is about the same. I am likely to be using the camera for wildlife shots (including photographing butterflies so I can ID em later!), landscapes, and some general family indoor shots. It would be nice if it could take some low light shots ok as we have some fabulous sunsets. I am also a complete beginner with camera settings so would like it to have a good auto mode whilst I'm learning!

If you were chosing between the FZ38 and FZ45 purely on image quality, which would you pick? Apologies if this has been asked a number of times before, I just wanted to be sure what your latest thoughts are

Welcome to the forum. Have a look at the pictures in the
Panasonic/Leica forum. It looks like the FZ40/45 has similar
image quality to the FZ35/38.

The extra zoom of the FZ45 might be useful for your wildlife
shots. Looking at the images posted by LTZ470 shows that
the FZ40/45 is also an excellent macro/close-up camera.

If I was in your situation, I would probably buy the FZ45.
It seems close to the FZ38 in Image quality and it will
probably have a better resale value if you decide to sell
it on in the future.
