but if you do go the route of a dslr, there is a bit of learning to do, to get the results you want.

Here is a link on what you can expect with the canon and the 50 1.8 in low light. There are some shots with flash, just ignore them. The non flash will give you and idea what the camera can do in low light. But that will take some online researching on how to use a dsr to get those results.

That would be perfect. I really like how that came out. How much would it all cost?

The really sharp ones are flashes, if you get close with the weak built in flash it will give you ok results with the 50 1.8 lens

take a look a www.dslrtips.com they have workshop on shooting with a dslr. You will need to decided if you want to spend the time to learn how to shoot with a dslr. After that, there are tons of video on youtube that can help you along also. If you want to read more on dslr shooting steve's knowledge center is very good.

the system I mention that will meet all you requirements will be a right at your top end budget of 1000

canon T1i refreb will be around 580 with kit lens, the long zoom ef-s 55-250 is about 230-250 dollars, and the ef 50 1.8 is about 95 dollars

The 2 lens kit new is about 900, and 95 for the low light lens.
