Default Is the SX130 worth it over the SX120?

I've been planning to buy Canon's SX130 IS for a little while here, but the other day I was comparing it with the SX120 IS on Canon's website, and I don't see much improvement.

The first thing I noticed is that the SX120 opens wider by 2/3 of a stop on the wide end and over a full stop on the telephoto end. Definitely sounds better for low-light. The SX130 churns out 12.1MP images over the SX120's 10MP, but sacrifices ISO speed, only going up to ISO1600, compared to SX120's 3200 max.

The only real improvements I see in the SX130 are HD video and slightly shorter focal length on the wide end of the zoom range.

Am I missing something? Is the SX130 really worth the $100 extra?

No, you have solved the puzzle exactly. You have to ask yourself how important those two features are to you.

I hope the 130 is faster than the 120.

The SX-130 will probably be down to around $200 by mid January or February. But for now, the camera is brand new and it has not experienced any discounting.

My point is that I'm debating which is better even at the same price. I guess it comes down to personal preference. I'll take the wider aperture and higher ISO any day. Others probably prefer HD video and slightly wider angle.

I guess I'd better snap up an SX120 before the price new goes through the roof.

What do you mean "through the roof"? I got mine last night at Office Max, for $125. The last camera I bought was in 2004, my trusty old Canon A510. It was my very first digital camera. So I guess, I am having a hard time catching the detail of what the value of what I bought really is. I am just a mom who takes holiday photos and pictures t document her children's life. I want a good camera, but I can't afford to break the bank over it. I guess I keep wondering if the price will continue to go down with the new 130 out, or if Black Friday ads will have the 130 down to around $150 or so.
