Sometimes, the gate guards at sports venues or air bases cannot keep up with the capabilities of digicams. If a superzoom is relatively bulky, like the HS10 or the Fuji S200, they don't let you take it in or use it. However, a compact superzoom (12X or 15X) that you can stick in your pocket gets right through although it may take 12 or 14 megapixel images at over 300mm and HD video.

it is all nice to have big zooms and stuff. But if the evf can not keep up with the jets. you are shooting blind. The helicopters you should be able to catch. As they will fly under 200ft. But the jets are a little higher and allot faster.

It's okay... it's not a huge priority for me, just something I want to play around with.

One more question.... do the FZ35 and the FZ40 deliver equally good photos?

I'm re-thinking my earlier idea... by the time I pay the extra shipping, I'll have toasted the value of the discount on the FZ35 if I decide that I want the 40 after all. Might be just smarter to go with the 40 in the first place, embrace it and see what I can do with it.

kaaryn-

The Fz-35 will have a slightly better high ISO capability than the FZ-40, though the FZ-40 has a wider wide angle and a longer final zoom. it seems like the FZ-35 does ISO 800 more easily than the FZ-40.

Ordered! I went for the FZ35, we'll see what it can do. And a case for it - Lowepro Topload Zoom 1.

I thought about a UV filter but figured I'd come back here and ask if there is anything like that which I *should* buy, or if all of those filters etc are things I should grow into?

Thanks As it turns out I'm getting a different bag, the one I asked for was out of stock but they're substituting the Lowepro Toploader Zoom 50 AW. Looks about the same but with an all-weather cover added on, I said as long as it fits the camera I'm happy.

Yay! He called and said I'll have it tomorrow by Express Post!!

FYI... in case anyone is curious, the rule on the base is, no cameras "greater than 300mm or equivalent" are allowed in the viewing areas. Film and memory cards "may be subject to confiscation." Even the 18X on the FZ35 is technically exceeding those rules - so I'd better not plan on going over there with an HS10, if I do get one at some point I'll have to keep it in my back yard to get pictures. LOL
