Default Recommend a cheap point and shoot?

I'm looking to replace my old Canon PowerShot SD1000. I'm looking for something similar: durable, compact, and simple (no real need to for an manual modes). I'm not looking for any specific features, though HD video would be nice. I'm looking in the $150 - $250 range, and have narrowed it to the below choices. Any recommendations out of those? or any others I should look at?

Thanks

Go for the Canon SX130is $200-$250 or the Kodak 950 $150 orKodak 915 $100. All 3 of them have vgd reviews.Kodak 915 doesn't have HD video.

Welcome to the Forum. We're pleased that you dropped by.

I would rank you my choices this way:

Canon SX-130
Panasonic ZS7
Sony W-350
Panasonic FH-20
Kodak Z-950
Kodak Z-915
Refurbished Canon A-480 available at www.beachcamera.com

thanks for the responses!

I guess it's between the ZS7 and SX-130. I'm a bit turned off by the SX-130's AA battery, is that silly? Anything else I should consider in comparing the two?

Also, any specific detraction for the Canon SD1400?

Yes it's silly. hehe

The SX130 and ZS7 are both good cameras so I think the choice would come down to portability in part. The SX130 isn't pocketable and the ZS7 is. So it depends on what you need.

i guess i should actually check it out in store, because i definitely want something pocketable. But, based on the below and review, it seems pocketable?

ZS7: Product Dimensions: 1.3 x 4.1 x 2.4 inches ; 7.7 ounces
SX130: Product Dimensions: 4.5 x 2.9 x 1.8 inches ; 10.9 ounces

It really depends on the size of the pocket you want to put the camera into.

after checking in person, SX130 does not fit in pocket. so...

I liked the SD1400 in person. Any opinion on the ZS7 vs the SD1400?

jdob-

The ZS7 has a great 25mm wide angle position on it zoom and 12X Optical Zoom. The SD-1400 does not have that great wide angle and only 4X optical zoom.

The clear choice for me would be the Panasonic ZS-7.
