thanks again sarah, dustin and shoturtle for your suggestions and tips. i will definitely check out the link, and videos. i did go ahead and get the FZ40 today. i know, i know . perhaps down the line a DSLR will be what i need, but for now i'll try the FZ40 and work on learning more about photography in general. i get frustrated easily and need to keep with it.

You sold a camera that has been proven to be a great performer. I seriously doubt you'd be happy with the FZ50. It was a good camera when it came out but it's outdated technology. You'll find the LCD to be puny, the lens is short (12x), the ISO is capped at 400 (as Sarah suggested) and images at ISO 200 and above are very noisy, and the list goes on. You won't be happy (I don't think). I've made that mistake a few times (buying old technology because it's cheap) and the majority of times, I was totally unhappy.
