It will focus on the nikon, but it does not have image stabilization. Any sigma HSM lens will work on a nikon d5000. For action not a big deal but if you use it for telephoto shots, the OS HSM one is 1000 more, at 1800 bucks.

Eric:

Are you aware that the second vendor (Central Digital) you list does not appear to be an Authorized Nikon dealer? See this list:

http://www.nikonusa.com/fileuploads/...uthDealers.pdf

Are you buying your camera body from there, too?

If so, it looks like they're selling "Import" (a.k.a., gray market) models (cameras not intended for sale in the U.S.) from what I can tell of their listings. For example, this one:

http://www.centraldigital.com/Product/?10805442

Or this one:

http://www.centraldigital.com/Product/?10879458

At least they mark them as "Import Model" though (some vendors don't). :-)

Note that Nikon USA will refuse to service a gray market camera, even if you are willing to pay them for the service. That's why they note that the warranty is from Central Digital if you click on the link for "Import Model" in their listings (since Nikon USA won't service them, period).

BTW, even if you find someone selling models intended for sale in the U.S., if you don't buy one from an Authorized Nikon Dealer, Nikon USA won't cover them under warranty (since you have to be the original purchaser from a Nikon USA dealer to qualify for warranty service).

If they're gray market (as the cameras in those listings are), Nikon USA won't service them period (even if you are willing to pay them for the service).

I'd stick to http://www.bhphotovideo.com for any Nikon camera purchases (as they are an authorized Nikon dealer and have a good reputation). They do sell some gray market lenses (if so, they're marked as Import in the listings). But, all of their Nikon bodies are intended for sale in the U.S. and will have a Nikon USA warranty.

I took too long to type my reply. I see others have already pointed out that they are probably selling gray market gear. :-)

After recent findings of gray market items, this is what i will be buying, and from where:

camera body + 18-55 lens + 55-200 lens:
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-D5000-3-...7947998&sr=8-3

Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 lens:
http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-70-200mm.../dp/B001044RIQ

Nikon 50mm f/1.4 Lens:
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-50mm-1-4...7966141&sr=1-3

I believe those are all from authorized dealers, none are gray market, and all of them autofocus with the nikon d5000.

This is the sig you will want if you plan on using it for anything else but sports.

That sounds like a good bet, provided you're careful about the actual vendor you get the items from (as sometimes the listings will show different vendors, depending on when you click on one, and some merchants may not be authorized dealers).

In my case, I saw Adorama Camera as the merchant for the D5000 kit when I clicked on the link you posted (and Adorama is as authorized Nikon USA dealer), and Amazon.com as the merchant for the lenses (and Amazon.com is also an Authorized Nikon USA Dealer).
